Let's face it, there is a long history of versus in the world of graphic design: PC vs. Mac. Quark vs. InDesign. Windows vs. Mac OS. Shirt vs. Skins. (That last one is the bitterest of rivalries.)
My friend just sent me this remarkable link which ponders the fictitious Microsoft iPod.
Only a Designer who has been through the endless cycle of packaging revisions could have created this, because it is so dang on the nose.
It also illustrates how differently Microsoft and Apple market their products (okay, it's a send up, but still...)
If you're a Windows user and would like to see Macs get their due (Heather), go here. (Parental Advisory for explicit language and abuse of machinery.)

that is amazing!
wow.
this REALLY makes me want to buy a PC!!! they know how to appeal to my design sensibilities (you should check out my outfit today, very PC)
yeah, I've seen that. OK to poke fun at us...we're an affable bunch. But there's a diff between packaging for a consumer and packaging for the enterprise. And I have an iPod and I hate the paddle wheel thing. That's the fact ; ) I think Apple does a good job of marketing to consumers. Let's just leave it at that. And of course, we can all learn from people poking fun at us. 2 years of blogging has taught me that if nothing else!
Ah, but check out what would happen if Microsoft designers were to package the iPod for Windows. :-)

Arg! Goes to show you what happens when you only read the bottom half of a feed. Sorry for the duplicate video.
If you haven't seen this other video from a while back (about the fictional iPod flea), it's worth checking out. Please accept it as humor to offset the stupidity of my previous post.
Here
Susie - I've always found your outfits PC. It's the rest of you I worry about.
Heather - You're right about the enterprise thing, which explains Adobe's (the graphic designer's software of choice) interesting take on packaging... It's a good thing you all have a sense of humor, big companies need it. When I worked at Disney... Oh, I don't even want to start.
Cal - That's okay, great minds, eh? (Although mediocre minds might think alike, too, but maybe it's less well publicized). Just watched the video; funny! All is forgiven.
This just in, this video may have been created by Microsoft marketing itself? Check out this post from Will Pate
