I was doing a spin class last night as part of my obsessive compulsive fitness regime, and during one of the "standing" tracks I happened to look up and I noticed a motivational poster that I don't recall ever seeing before. The words Endurance Wasn't Built in a Day were staring at me loud and clear.
I just thought to myself oh really?
Endurance takes a huge amount of effort, persistence, commitment, motivation and having an end goal to strive towards. Exactly the same can be said about looking for a new job. I've often heard people say "looking for a new job is a full-time job in itself" which certainly reinforces the sheer amount of effort involved in order to make the process work in your favour.
Doing all the research and planning, writing cover letters, networking, speaking to people, preparing a résumé, interviewing, follow-up, and all along keeping your confidence and morale up is by no means easy. But despite how tough the market may appear right now, it's important not to give up and also not to take second best simply because an offer is put in front of you if it's not something you truly believe is exactly what you are looking for in your next role.
Endurance wasn't built in a day. Rome wasn't built in a day, and it's highly unlikely you will find your dream job in a day ... but hang in there ... stay focused and confident and it will happen.
