Don't know if any of you got Citysearch's email in LA today, but here's the Subject Line:
L.A.: It's beginning to look a lot like a real city
Hmmm. You mean the second largest city in America? And the city in which the people you are sending this email to are currently living in?
In their defense, Citysearch was trying to play up that our downtown scene is thriving, but really. LA gets knocks from the rest of the country for a number of reasons, but you don't need to drive that point home with your target audience, it just comes out insulting.
Haven't checked around, but I wondered if these went out today from Citysearch as well.
Houston: No longer a city chock full of hicks
New York: Wow, all this cold weather is covering up that bad smell
Chicago: A great place for crooked cops!
The lesson here? You can get jokey with your audience, but don't take it too far.
I happened to see this one.
Tampa, FL: Not just for Grandma!
Becky - love it!
